Bringing Sobremesa Back: CK Supper Club

I recently learned a Spanish word that describes something I’ve experienced my whole life: sobremesa. While there isn’t an English equivalent, I’m willing to bet you’ve taken part in it too.

Sobremesa is the period after dinner when you linger at the table, enjoy another glass (or two) of wine, and chat with the people around you. Growing up in a Persian home, we had our own version: never-ending cups of tea poured after dinner, fueling colorful conversations ranging from current events to personal family updates.

Over the years, I’ve learned that sobremesa has no cultural bounds. Whether it was a friend’s fajita night or a Shabbat dinner, the real party always started after the meal.

Hilarious stories are told.
Common friends are discovered.
Bucket lists are shared.

It’s challenging to create this organic social vibe in a restaurant or any place where time carries too much weight. The magic comes with slowing down, putting your phone away, and letting the conversation flow.

we believe it’s not just about what you’re eating, but also with whom you’re eating.

CK Family Dinners

Confetti Kitchen’s mission is to build meaningful connection through food. And, so much of that is rooted in my own experience engaging with family, old friends, and strangers-turned-new-friends around the dinner table.

So it only seemed natural that we at Confetti Kitchen set the table as well! We’re excited to kick-off CK Supper Club, our monthly dinner parties that are casual, intimate, and social.

Join Us!

We’re partnering with our friends at Whole Foods Market to host our next CK Supper Club dinner is Sunday 7/23 in San Francisco. I (yep, Cynthia) will be cooking up classic, family-style Persian dishes I grew up eating at home.

New to SF? Come make friends.
Dread the #sundayscaries? Forget about them over sobremesa.

Seating is limited and you can book your spot here. (Psst! Sign up for our email newsletter to get $10 off your ticket.) We’ll be providing wine, but you’re welcome to bring your favorite bottle if you’d like.

Come hungry for great food and people, and leave with a full stomach and soul!
